Couple of Big Edits

Pretty big update today. I removed the two-page character sheet from the zine so that I could add a new version of the Monster Builder from the original version of GLAIVE - updated and expanded. Several people have mentioned missing this in the newer version of the game. So it's back. The character sheet remains as a seperate free downloadable PDF.

The other big change is to Wisdom. I've generally liked the switch to 4 abilities (Strength, Dexterity, Willpower, and Wisom) but was seeing two issues with the new arrangement; Dexterity was a bit of a super-ability, impacting both a PC's effectiveness with ranged weapons and providing a bonus to armor class.  Wisdom, on the other hand, was less obviously important, though it did affect search roles and other perception-based activities.  Maybe it felt more situationally important, rather than always providing an obvious benefit.

So I've returned to the original GLAIVE interpretation of abilities and once more a PC's Wisdom bonus is applied to ranged attacks.

Is Wisdom really better at modelling a PC's ability to shoot a bow? Maybe? I don't know. But from a game design point of view it does feel like it brings the importance of each ability into better balance.

Feel free to ignore this change if you wish. It's your game.

In my experience with both bows and firearms, neither Dexterity or Wisom is a perfect fit for a ranged combat ability. A large party of the skill involved is simple muscle memory. Which is a form of learned skill. So in this regard Wisdom feels like a better fit.  In reality it's a lot more complicated. Should steath saves be modified by Wisdom now? That's also largely a learned skill. Maybe we shouldn't over-think the issue.

Other changes are minor. Mostly my continuing attempts to clean up the spell list and how magic works.

Let me know what you think of the changes!
