GLAIVE V2.2 - What's the Difference?
The cool thing about living documents is that they evolve. The potentially uncool thing is that they may evolve in directions that diverge the creator's vibes from yours.
Don't worry, you will always have your v2.1 PDFs. If you lose them, feel free to drop me a line. I'll be happy to get you another one.
There are no major mechanical changes in v2.2 but there are a lot of little ones.
- I added a Save difficulty scale that works in 15% increments because I liked how that worked when I ran Shadowdark. Thank's Kelsey!
- I changed the damage of big two-handed weapons from 2d6 to 1d12 because my players decided that they liked the potentially awesome/awful results more than the comfort of the 2D6 bell curve.
- Shields got 5% better. Finally! Amirite?
- I changed Advantage/Disadvantage from a flat +/- 4 to the "roll 2 dice, take the best/worst result" method, again due to my players preferring the thrill of rolling dice.
- Yes, WIS is the ability used for ranged shooting attacks. It's not a typo. Stop asking.
- I changed Initiative rolls to something more streamlined.
- I reworked Wizard Sanctums to be less punishingly expensive and prone to huge losses. The original math was based on B/X levels of gold, and I find with the lower XP Level thresholds in Glaive we just don't see that much cash in play.
- Similarly, I reworked Carousing math for the same reasons. I also lowered the XP benefits for the low-risk carousing options.
- I removed/reworked any talents that gave any sort of darkvision-like abilities. Dwarves can still echo-yodel because it's stupid and loud.
- I cut the Half-Foot talent that let them reroll a failed Save 1/day. I've concluded that I hate re-roll mechanics.
- I got rid of or repurposed the Druid Talents. I feel like they were too open-ended or situational.
- I reworked the Hospitaller Talent to make it something that might actually be worth taking instead of something that was just some neat flavor. It's a re-skin of a Shadowdark Ranger ability reworked for Glaive, and I hope I did the copyright SD license thing correctly on the inside cover of the zine. Are any lawyers reading this? Help?
- I edited the Combat Maneuvers list. Some of them were duplicating Talents. Others seemed to be more appropriate as Talents.
- There may still be one or two Talents that reference combat maneuvers that no longer exist. I did my best to catch them all. Please let me know if you spot any such errors.
- My players never use these. Does anyone? Are these just for me, who never gets to play?
- I renamed the not-Tieflings and added Goblins, Demi-Ogres, and Orcs because they've come up in my home game and they've been fun.
- Were orcs already in a v2 update? I can't remember. Not important. They are there now.
- I swapped in some new spells the the D100 spell list.
- I've continued working on cleaning up spell descriptions, terminology, etc.
The BIG changes come in the pages relating to character creation. My players still enjoy rolling to see if they have greasy hair or ancient ragged clothing, but beyond the fun of rolling that stuff at character creation, it has never added anything meaningful to playing the game. Rolling for random gear is another thing that was just not working as well as I thought it could. It somehow managed to always take too long and nobody ever understood how many times to roll on which tables. Because written instructions are hard I guess, lol
- Random character appearance and mannerisms have been replaced with a D100 (really a D50) Backgrounds table. Some backgrounds give you a bit of cash or equipment. One or two give you a minor ability. I hope they all give the GM something fun to mess around with in the game.
- Some of these are from my old GLoG game, RELIC. Some are new. Some are scrounged from the blog-o-sphere. Some are inspired by the previous GLAIVE Motivation table.
- Starting Gear is a d8 table of themed adventuring packs.
- Speaking of RELIC: my players missed the old stupid names tables from Relic. I've added a D100 names table and a D20 Sobriquets table.
I hope you enjoy the update! Please tell me if you find any mistakes and I will address them as fast as I can.

I appreciate the detailed changelog! Thanks for going the extra mile.
I'm sure I missed some things haha!
But you are welcome
